The very first step in applying for Texas Dealer License is obtaining a General Distinguishing Number (GDN). Whether you sell new cars, old cars, motorcycles, or any other trailers, you’ll need a separate GDN for each category or class of vehicles.
To apply for GDN, you’ll need to show proofs of having a permanent place of business, signage in accordance to the laws, and space enough to display at least a minimum of five vehicles, the type you intend to sell. There is quite a lot of difference between a franchise, and independent dealers, for which you’ll need to apply separately, so be careful.
Any new dealer applying for TX Dealer License will have to apply for a Franchise Agreement with the manufacturer of the vehicles he intends to sell. This is in addition to the GND. Also, the thing to consider here is that a separate agreement will be needed for each make of car that one deals with. The Franchise Agreement is not required by the sellers of old car!
